Flock – Helping Mid West ventures soar

Mid West people operating creative, social or digital ventures now have a chance to access a learning opportunity of the type normally only accessible in the big cities.

Pollinators has launched its latest Flock learning program to help Mid West ventures go further and faster using a mentoring approach with a small group of trusted peers, experienced guest presenters and world-class resources.

Flock facilitators Joanne Blayney said Flock was a low cost learning program that helped increase success by providing strategies and tactics on helping people and their ventures realise their full potential.

She said she was excited to be working on the kind of learning opportunity that was normally restricted to city people.

“Working on your venture can be so fulfilling, but it can also be really challenging when you’re doing it on your own, or in a small group, with limited time and budget,” Ms Blayney said.

“Flock is about bringing together people into three streams – digital, social and creative – and allowing small groups within each stream to support each other, while also getting access to guest presenters and world-class resources.

“It’s about providing the opportunity for top-notch support you’d normally only find in the city, and offering it at a really low price right here in Geraldton.”

Past participant Andrew O’Loughlin said the program had been extremely useful to help understand the different ways she could promote her community group, Apex.

“I learnt a lot in terms of understanding the different ways we can promote ourselves, engage effectively through social media and also share ideas with others in the program facing the same challenges such as membership,” Ms O’Loughlin said.

“Jo was knowledgeable and encouraging and brought in a good range of experts to give us new ideas.”

The program is broken into six sessions of support from peers and experts and includes guides, tools and resources tailored to participants’ needs.

It includes a private online forum for sharing and discussion,  small peer groups of less than twelve people in each of the three streams, facilitated action-learning approach and pre- and post-program diagnostics and coaching to evidence and track learning and success.

The program begins on September 22 with an introductory workshop. Each subsequent session is 1.5 hours long, every second week.

It costs $450 for non-Pollinators members and $350 for Pollinators members.

Flock is sponsored by the Mid West Development Commission, which is committed to fostering innovation in the region.
