Geraldton creatives form an alliance

A group of Geraldton creatives and youth services has banded together to support each other’s ventures and add vibrancy to the city.

Pollinators, headspace, The Comedy Emporium, Mara Art Aboriginal Corporation and the Arts and Cultural Development Council have signed an MOU as part of their union under Pollinators’ new CreativeHub space in the West End of Marine Terrace.

By signing the MOU, the partners have agreed to commit to growing creative industries as a legitimate and valuable part of the Mid West economy.

They have also pledged to support each other’s ventures to achieve social, cultural and economic benefits for the city.

Pollinators space lead Angie West said the MOU was a major step in Pollinators’ vision of creating a vibrant hub for creatives and youth services in the city.

She said the next step would be transforming the entire top floor of the CreativeHub building into a ‘MakerSpace’ to provide space for smaller-scale creative ventures at an affordable price.

“These are exciting times as we bring together very different groups, but with common interests, to the one vibrant location,” Ms West said.

“There are real benefits in similar organisations locating together, in terms of supporting each other, promoting each other’s work and in simply being surrounded by like-minded people.

“We can’t wait to see what magic unfolds.”

Headspace Geraldton centre manager Nick Duigan said headspace was excited to partner with CreativeHub to help young people to foster connections and enable them to contribute their creativity to Geraldton.

“Connection to community plays a vital role in the health and wellbeing of all people – and is particularly important among young people developing their identity and sense of belonging in the world around them,” Mr Duigan said.

The Comedy Emporium ringleader Julian Canny said the collaboration was an exciting way for the arts sector help cross promote each other.

“We are stronger if we work to draw attention to positive actions that are taking place in our CBD by all groups involved,” Mr Canny said.

The CreativeHub is supported by Panaceum Group and St John of God Hospital.
