Geraldton’s Creative Community Receives Funding Support

Geraldton’s creative community receives more support for grassroots project in the CBD.

Lotterywest enabled the expansion of Geraldton’s own Creative Hub earlier this month.  By granting $50,000 of funding to Pollinators Inc. this funding along with the funding pledged by Labor candidate Lara Dalton has made the purchase of amenities for Creative Hub possible.

The purchase of these facilities will mean that spaces within Creative Hub – from Headspace and Arts & Cultural Development Council (ACDC) to Yamaji Arts  – can now be further activated. Larger events and festivals will be able to operate to council health standards more often and with ease. The Comedy Emporium team have worked for nearly 24 months, alongside Pollinators to make this possible, and all users of Creative Hub are hugely grateful for the funding.

“This is like a push off from the starting block,” says Pollinators Spaces Lead Angie West, “from here we can really get the ball rolling, and bring Creative Hub to it’s full potential.”

This particular part of the Geraldton CBD has been abandoned for over 30 years and we have a vision that Creative Hub will  make our region’s creative talent and industries more visible. A like-minded network of organisations, including Pollinators, ACDC, Headspace, Yamaji Arts and The Comedy Emporium, share a combined vision to shape the cultural identity of our community together. We are hugely appreciative for the support of the land owners who also support this vision.

The toilet blocks are transportable, meaning that if the Creative Hub space is ever relocated – the toilets can move too.  The project will involve two units; One large unit to help increase the capacity of events in the space so that arts groups can have maximum attendance, and a second unit that will be a fully accessible toilet unit to ensure arts and cultural events are accessible to our whole community.

Once the toilets are installed, the Creative Hub space will be available for the whole of the Geraldton community to utilise, activating the space and bringing further vibrancy to the West End of Geraldton CBD.  The next step for the progression of the Creative Hub, is getting the toilets into town.  Transportation is needed from the site in Perth. Electrical, plumbing and building trades are also required for the installation, and beautification of the site.  Supporters of the project are encouraged to contact Pollinators if they would like to offer their services or be of any assistance with the project – any support is appreciated!
