Geraldton’s Botanical Garden gets the go-ahead!

Friends of Geraldton Gardens Inc. (FROGGs for short) recently got the go-ahead they were after to start Stage 1 of the Geraldton Botanical Gardens project.

Pollinators have been supporting FROGGs on their journey to develop a Botanical Garden at Maitland Park in Geraldton’s CBD, similar to Kings Park but on a much smaller scale.

Pollinators held a GeroSoup event this year, for which FROGGs’ representatives Stan Maley and Lesley Colliver pitched the idea to a local crowd and raised $205!

This money made it possible for FROGGs to start creating a prospectus for the project.

FROGGs’ Stan Maley says Pollinators have been useful to come to and seek advice from other professionals.

“Pollinators has lots of vibrant entrepreneurs working in CityHive that help older people like myself,” says Stan Maley. “Professional advice over a cup of tea for free… you can’t beat it.”

FROGGs received permission from The City of Greater Geraldton 2 years ago to go ahead with the Botanical Garden but the MOU proved difficult, resulting in the project being put on hold.

The MOU was signed this month thanks to help from Clayton + Weir who created the briefs and Liam Richards who created the prospectus.

The briefs have been sent to three different architects to get a quote for Stage 1 of the project. The next step is to raise money through the new prospectus and additional funding.

Friends of Geraldton Gardens Inc. want to raise funds in the meantime and have already raised $400 from being involved with the Goodness Festival 2018.
