Connecting Youths in the Coworking Community

Last week, youths from Training Alliance Group Geraldton joined Pollinators coworkers for a unique networking experience.

The group undertaking an Employment Skills Course wanted to connect more with individuals in the community, and network with people they otherwise wouldn’t get the chance to meet.

Around a feast of fish and chips on the Geraldton Foreshore, the group did short introductions.  There was Amy, Terry, Ethan and Nick with their mentor Irene from Training Alliance Group. Coworkers included Euphorium Creative staff, Stan Maley the Retic Man, Andrea O’loughlin from Synaco Global Recruitment, Pollinators staff members and Chontarle Bellottie from Bush Heritage.

What did the students get from this experience:

“Going to the lunch was amazing, it helped a lot with my confidence and seeing how people who have volunteered have been employed due to that. Everyone was lovely,” said Amy.

As a result of this event, Amy has been offered some work experience opportunities with Kids Art Projects.

“The Pollinators networking session made me feel more confident and I liked that there were a few things that I would not mind doing as an internship or even as an actual job,” said Terry.

“I loved how I was told my creative writing skills could come into play and I could express myself creatively through their company. Plus getting given a business card made me feel good about myself, as I felt like I’m appreciated and looked upon with a skill set,” said Nick.

Ethan has gained a great work experience opportunity to deliver programming coding lessons to kids who attend CoderDojo (organised by Scinapse). Ethan is very excited by the prospect and had already started planning by the time we got back to the office. He shows a fantastic can-do attitude, is very intelligent and can come across as very professional when necessary.

Training Alliance Group and Pollinators Inc recognise the benefits from this event and endeavor to continue to hold similar events in the future with differing groups of young, aspiring students in the community.
